What is Community Mental Health Services Block Grant?

The Community Mental Health Services Block Grant is dedicated to improving public mental health service systems across the country. The purpose of the grant is to help build and support the community-based public mental health system for adults with serious mental illness (SMI) and children with severe emotional disturbance (SED).

Program Requirements

The grant is awarded to the 59 states and territories of the United States according to a formula established by congress. Eligible states and territories must submit an annual application to SAMHSA.  States and territories further disseminate the funding to providers of service.
