What is Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) Disability Extension?

The Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) Disability Extension is for service members who are totally disabled at the time of discharge. The benefit allows the member to retain their SGLI coverage for up to two years after discharge at no cost to them.

Program Requirements

To qualify, you must have SGLI at discharge and be totally disabled at discharge. To be considered totally disabled, you must have a disability that prevents you from being gainfully employed, OR have one of several statutory conditions.
