What is Connecticut Summer Food Service?

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was established to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Free nutritious meals and snacks that meet Federal nutrition guidelines are provided to all children 18 years old and under at approved SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income children.

Program Requirements

All children and youth (age 18 and under) who come to an approved food service site are eligible to receive free meals.

At certain sites, such as residential camps, benefits are available only to children whose families meet the income standard for free or reduced-price meals. You can find out what the maximum income limits for eligibility are on Food and Nutrition Service's (FNS) School Meals "Income Eligibility Guidelines" page.

Children who participate in certain other programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Head Start or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and children who are migrant, runaway, or homeless are automatically eligible for free meals.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

Household Size* Maximum Income Level (Per Year)
1 $22,459
2 $30,451
3 $38,443
4 $46,435
5 $54,427
6 $62,419
7 $70,411
8 $78,403

*For households with more than eight people, add $7,992 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.
