What is Health Professions Pregraduate Scholarship Program for Indians?

Indian Health Service (IHS) Pre-Graduate Scholarship Program provides financial aid to qualified American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate students.

Health Professions Pregraduate Scholarship Program for Indians is administered by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Program Requirements

To be a recipient of this benefit program, you must meet all of the following:

  • Be members or descendants of federally recognized, state-recognized, or terminated Tribes; and
  • Be a high school graduate or the equivalent who is enrolled in courses leading to a bachelor's degree in specific pre-professional areas.

These pre-professional areas allow for application to a postgraduate health professions program such as medicine, dentistry, podiatry, optometry and others as deemed appropriate - based on IHS health professions needs.
