Temporary Assistance for Families in Idaho (TAFI) is the monthly cash assistance program for low-income families in Idaho. The program goal is to provide necessary assistance to needy families with children on a temporary basis and provide parents with job preparation, work opportunities, enforcement of child support, and support services to enable them to become self-sufficient, and leave the program as soon as possible. This is a time-limited cash assistance and supportive services program with an emphasis on self-reliance and personal responsibility.
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Idaho, either pregnant or responsible for a child under 19 years of age, a U.S. national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident, have low or very low income, and be either under-employed (working for very low wages), unemployed or about to become unemployed.
You can apply for TAFI cash assistance at your local Health and Welfare's Self Reliance office (a list of which can be found on the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare website) or contact the 2-1-1 Idaho CareLine to have an application mailed to you. Dial 2-1-1 or 1-800-926-2588.
