Program Requirements

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must a resident of Minnesota and meet all of the following:

  • Unemployed, and
  • Worked in Minnesota during the past 12 months (this period may be longer in some cases), and
  • Earned a minimum amount of wages determined by Minnesota guidelines, and
  • Actively seeking work each week you are collecting benefits.

What is the application process for Minnesota Unemployment Insurance?

To apply for Minnesota unemployment benefits, file an application on the first day that you are unemployed or your work hours are substantially reduced by either completing the application online on the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance website (click on "Applicants" and then on "Apply for Benefits") or by calling 651-296-3644 (Twin Cities calling area); 1-877-898-9090 (outside of the Twin Cities calling area); 1-866-814-1252 (TTY for the hearing impaired).
