What is Special Milk Program for Rhode Island ?

The Special Milk Program encourages the consumption of milk by children in public and private nonprofit schools, and in nonprofit residential or non-residential childcare institutions, provided they do not also participate in other Federal meal service programs. However, schools in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Programs which operate split-session pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs may participate in the Special Milk Program to provide milk to children in those programs who do not have access to the lunch or breakfast programs.

To be eligible for the Rhode IslandSpecial Milk Program, you must be a resident of the state of Rhode Islandand meetall ofthe following:

  • Be a child in a school or institution that participates in the Special Milk Program; and
  • Be low-income or very low income.

Each child's family must apply annually for free milk eligibility.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:
