What is Social Security Medicare Program?

The Social Security Medicare Program is a federally funded program administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Medicare is our country’s health insurance program. The Social Security Administration (SSA) can provide you general information about the Medicare program.

Program Requirements

To qualify for this benefit program you must meet the following requirements:

  • Are age 65 or older,
  • Receive Social Security Disability benefits, or
  • Have certain disabilities or permanent kidney failure (even if under age 65)

If you would like to find out if you may be eligible for any of the benefits SSA administers, take the U.S. Social Security Administration’s (SSA) Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool questionnaire.
