What is South Carolina Weatherization Assistance Program?

The Weatherization Assistance Program provides home weatherization assistance to improve the quality of life for low-income families, particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities and children by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. The Weatherization Assistance Program for each of the state's 46 counties is coordinated through ten community action agencies.

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a resident of South Carolina. Preference may be given to:

  • People over 60 years of age
  • Families with one or more members with a disability
  • Families with children (in most states)

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

*For households with more than eight people, add $10,760 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.

Under DOE guidelines, you are automatically eligible to receive weatherization assistance if you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF).
